Artists Siblings Visionaries

Artists, Siblings, Visionaries by Judith Mackrell is a fascinating dual biography of British artists Gwen John and Augustus John, two extraordinarily talented siblings whose lives and work were shaped by art, love, rivalry and the changing society of the early twentieth century.

Augustus John became celebrated as one of Britain's great artistic talents, known for his vivid personality and bohemian lifestyle. His sister Gwen was more private and reserved, and although her work was highly accomplished, she struggled for recognition during her lifetime. Mackrell explores their contrasting personalities, artistic careers and complicated relationship, while examining the people, relationships and social expectations that influenced their lives.

Richly researched and engagingly written, Artists, Siblings, Visionaries offers an intimate portrait of two remarkable artists and the world in which they lived.
